A Thoughtfully Crafted Family Home Designed & Built from A to Z

Walthamstow, E17 London

This early 20th-century terraced house in Walthamstow, E17 was completely reimagined from the ground up not simply renovated, but rebuilt with intention, warmth, and long-term vision.

Every element you see here from structure to finishes, from lighting to materials was designed, coordinated and delivered end-to-end by Nilo Construction.

The Philosophy

This project was never about chasing trends. It was about creating a home that feels calm, tactile, and timeless a space that quietly elevates everyday life. The property was taken back to bare brick, allowing us to fully rethink the layout, upgrade all services, and rebuild the house properly structurally, technically, and aesthetically.

Ground Floor: Light, Flow & Connection

The ground floor was completely reconfigured to create a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, supported by structural alterations and underpinning works.

A rear extension seamlessly extends the home into the garden, blurring the boundary between inside and out through large glazed doors and carefully considered proportions.

Bespoke Kitchen Designed & Built by Nilo Construction

The kitchen was delivered on a full bespoke design & build basis, tailored precisely to the client’s lifestyle.

Key elements include:

  • Custom-made cabinetry in a soft, muted colour palette

  • Solid worktops with a refined, contemporary finish

  • Integrated appliances and intelligent storage solutions

  • Carefully layered lighting to suit different moods throughout the day

A kitchen designed to feel effortless, calm and enduring.

Bathrooms: Travertine, Warmth & Precision

The bathrooms were designed as serene, spa-like spaces, centred around natural travertine stone tiles, chosen for their warmth, texture and timeless character.

Features include:

  • Travertine wall and floor tiling, creating a cohesive and tactile backdrop

  • Walk-in shower and freestanding bath

  • Bespoke double vanity unit with wall-mounted taps

  • Thoughtfully integrated lighting, sockets and accessories

  • A restrained, natural palette that enhances light and materiality

The use of travertine brings a sense of quiet luxury a material that feels grounded, authentic and beautifully imperfect.

Materials & Interior Finishes

Throughout the house, materials were selected to create continuity and understated elegance:

  • Engineered oak flooring laid in a classic herringbone pattern

  • Recessed (shadow gap) skirting boards for a clean architectural finish

  • Bespoke joinery throughout

  • Carefully selected paint finishes to complement natural light

  • A fully upgraded lighting scheme across all floors

  • Refined staircase detailing

Technical Excellence Invisible but Essential

Behind the scenes, the house was fully modernised to current standards:

Complete electrical rewire throughout water-based underfloor heating installed throughout, zoned across five areas:

  • Kitchen

  • Living area

  • Home office

  • Bedroom

  • Bathroom

Gas meter relocated and services rationalised. Integrated fire sprinkler system, future-proofing the property for a planned loft conversion
